McNair scholars are encouraged to apply for external summer research opportunities as undergraduates. During their last summer before graduation, we strongly encourage scholars to apply both to our INDV 460 Summer Research Internship (at Truman) as well as to external research opportunities.
Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REUs) and Summer Research Opportunities (SROPs) invite participants from most academic majors to apply. More government support is available through the National Science Foundation for participants in the sciences. Some target students from underrepresented backgrounds, like McNair scholars.
The McNair Program encourages are scholars to apply for external REUs. Click here for the list of reasons why.
Applications are often open in late fall (often November) and they often close around February, but each REU has its own particular timelines and requirements. In the fall, take a look at the opportunities below, find ones you think are appropriate/interesting, and discuss them with your mentor. Additional opportunities may be available through Truman’s Office of Student Research.
Click one of the following links to see examples of REUs to which you might be interested in applying. Good luck!
