Eligibility
To be eligible for the McNair Program at Truman, an applicant must be a full-time Truman State University student of at least sophomore status who satisfies the following requirements:

A first-generation college and income-eligible individual and/or an individual from groups currently underrepresented in graduate education: Black (non-Hispanic), Hispanic, American Indian, Alaskan Native, Native Hawaiian, or Native American Pacific Islander;

A United States citizen; a U.S. permanent resident (or in the process of becoming one); a permanent resident of Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, or the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands; or a resident of one of the Freely Associated States; AND
-
A student with strong potential and desire to understand and prepare for the pursuit of a doctoral degree.

The 2012 online application will be available from 10/1/2012 - 11/1/2012.
You will need the following information to complete your application:

Your parents' 2011 federal income tax return
OR
Your 2011 federal income tax return if you are considered an independent student by Truman's Financial Aid Office
If your parents (or yourself if an independent student) did not file a 2011 federal income tax return, they (or you) will be required to submit a signed statement indicating this. A sample statement is available in the application.

Two faculty (i.e. professor) references, one of whom must be in your major

A personal statement on how participation in the McNair Program would impact your academic goals (300-400 words)

A statement on how you plan to help the Program meet its four objectives (300-400 words)

An academic writing sample (such as a paper you submitted for a class) that is 5 double-spaced pages or less
